Match Review
Cavani's relieved to score after missing a host of chances against Arsenal |
The Red Devil's never relented after the Saints' Alexandre Jankewitz was sent off for a studs-up challenge on Scott Mctominay just 82 seconds into the match. Wan-Bissaka opened the scoring with his first goal at Old Trafford. United doubled their lead soon after Rashford redirected a Mason Greenwood pass past Saint's keeper. The third goal came courtesy of Southampton's own goal. Cavani added a 4th, not even having to jump as he powered home his header, such was the quality of Shaw's cross.
Substitute Anthony Martial scored twice in the final 21 minutes. McTominay then drilled home a low effort from long range. Bednarek's night got worse as full time approached, he tripped Martial in the area, earning himself a sending off and gifting United a spot-kick that Bruno Fernandes converted. Daniel James scored in the second-half stoppage time to seal the match as the joint highest scorecard in the Premier League.
Key Points
